This was initiated as a “Proudly South African” project. The idea being that everything involved in this project was to be local. It was only when the movie trilogy took the world by storm, that the masses realised that J.R.Tolkien was in fact, South African.

This vehicle is our “Workhorse”, ie. It works every day carrying paint, compressors etc. from one site to another. With only four days left to go before the show, the pressure was really on!! Although the design detail was fairly modest, the end result was quite outstanding! This was due to a “flat-out work rate” and great support from - Wayne of Vale Auto Spray Tech, House of Kolor Paint supplied by Bryce of Creative Rides Rubberising from Rob of Rhino Linings.

This project was a little unusual, in that the client didn’t want the front section customised at all, as it had been made from Carbon Fibre, which he wanted to be visible. The client asked for something similar to our “Sea of Souls” design, which we had previously done in a Night Club, for the sides of the car. Then for the roof he chose the Dragon, which is a little conflicting.

Extra special attention was given to this project, as Justin, the company owner, stated from the start, that he wanted to win “Custom Car of the Show” at the 2007 Castrol Xtreme Auto Show, and he did!!! The paint used in this project was DNA Paint from Australia. The artwork was to create the effect of a mini whirlwind whisking the playing cards into the air, as they left the Joker’s hand, causing them to flow off the bonnet and down the sides of the car. As an added effect, we put a monotone reflection of the Joker himself, on the sides, as though he was admiring his own handiwork with the playing cards. The facial expressions were changed, so on one side the Joker is happy, and on the other, angry

Backdrops were the most fascinating thing that I had ever seen. The way that they were produced was amazing and before I had even seen how a spay gun works I was hooked and I have never looked back. I placed myself in the images digitally to show the size of the backdrops

This was airbrushed on to a 1.5 x 1.0 metre canvas, and delivered personally to Sir Richard Branson’s office in London, in August 2007 The design was to highlight his achievements, from the very beginning with Tubular Bells, with his island in the background, and the rest of the world in the palm of his hand. A tribute to a truly successful and humble man
