Ron Shipp's Gallery

Posted by RonShipp on 9/1/2006
I am a painter/sculptor from New Mexico. A lot of my work is done with an airbrush, but I also work with traditional brushes and paints---depending on the surface I'm working on, and whether I want texture or not. I'm only posting airbrush work on this forum, but if you would like to see some of my other art, check out my fickr website listed on my profile.

Airbrushes:
I use an Iwata HP-CS for detail, and a Paasche VL for covering large areas.

Paint:
HOK urethanes
Golden airbrush acrylics & GAC 200 medium
Createx Auto Air acrylics

Other tools:
an old Sears compressor
CO2 bottles
Sometimes I use friskets & shields, but I usually avoid them like the plague unless I want a particularly sharp edge.

Fine Arts airbrush

These are some "fine arts" airbrush paintings I've done. Some are on illustration board. Some are on relief-sculpted polystyrene foam.

This is a redo on a pickup I had formerly painted flames on. This time I added a lion head.

Excalibur

Excalibur

This was an airbrush job on a Jag hood.
I stole the background from an old Maxfield Parrish illustration---added a foreground, an Excalibur sword, and a few special effects.

Skull tank

Skull tank

Painted on a Honda tank with HOK urethanes and my Iwata Eclipse HP-CS. I'm not real crazy about doing skulls, but that's what the customer wanted, so I gave it my best shot.

Budweiser Eagle

Budweiser Eagle

This is one of my first airbrush jobs---done back around 1982 at Little Tony's Signs in Eugene, Oregon. The truck driver worked for Budweiser. On this one I used a Paasche VL and 1-Shot sign enamels.
